Your First Orthodontic Exam
Your first visit will take place at one of our two locations, both of which are just a quick drive from Avon Grove. Dr. Cari and his staff take the time to listen to your concerns about and goals for you or your child’s treatment.
Next, Dr. Cari will personally examine the patient’s teeth and gums, and one of our techs will administer a panoramic X-ray, which produces a comprehensive view of your teeth and their roots, jaw joint (tmj), and sinus. This will give us a precise indication of the treatment that is necessary. We can then discuss approximate treatment time as well as our fees for the program.

Basically, all changes to the alignment of your teeth happen using some appliance — whether an expander, braces, or an alternative like Invisalign—to exert slow pressure on teeth to encourage them to move into the desired new placement.
Phase I orthodontic treatment takes place before all of the adult teeth have erupted, so age 6 through 10 is usually appropriate. The orthodontist may recommend an intervention in order to correct conditions such as overbites and crossbites, or to create space for developing teeth.
Phase II orthodontic treatment offers a full solution, such as braces or Invisalign trays, in order to correct misalignment once the full set of adult teeth have come in, sometime after age 11.
Every case is different, but we often advise our patients to expect Phase II treatment to last anywhere from one to two years. And since Dr. Cari has two area practices, we make it as easy as possible for Avon Grove residents to attend their regular appointments.
Types of Braces
Braces, of course, are the most common means of straightening misaligned teeth. The many advances that have been made mean that braces are more convenient and less unsightly than ever.
Dr. Cari excusively uses self-ligating braces (usually Speed or Damon brand) which provide quicker and easier treatment than traditional braces. Treatment times can be reduced up to 40 percent over the previous generation of braces!

Invisalign is a premium option for those who desire an alternative to braces. Custom-made aligner trays are changed out every two weeks in order to gently create the smile of your dreams.
